25th annual solar car race is back in BG
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Electreck Formula Sun Grand Prix is back in action this year.
The three-day competition features colleges and universities from across the United States, Canada and around the world. Each team designs, builds and generates solar powered vehicles.
Teams will first go through an inspection process of their vehicle before heading to the track.
Points are earned by how many laps a car completes within 24 hours. Each day consists of 8 hours of racing and time to charge vehicles.
For the last 25 years, the Eletreck Formula event has provided experiences to many generations.
Gail Lueck, with the Innovations Educational Foundation, believes this competition is a “great experience” for students. She adds the foundation is “all about getting them outside the classroom.”
Aside from the competition, students get to enhance their problem solving skills and teamwork.
However, keeping their eyes on the prize is not the only goal.
Louise Dubois and Edurad, two international student participants, are “really happy to be here” and allow their hard work pay off. Their team is focused on is “to have fun and to learn.” They express how they are grateful for this experience.
The event will run from now until July 5. Public gets in free.
