U of L – Glasgow Family Medicine Residency Program Celebrates 25 Years
CAVE CITY, KY — Alumni, faculty, and current residents gathered Thursday night to celebrate 25 years of the University of Louisville/Glasgow Family Medicine Residency Program.
“This is our 25th anniversary celebration,” said Program Director Stephen House. “We’ve been providing care to the Glasgow community for 25 years now.”
House said the program has now trained 98 graduates.
“This is our 25th graduating class. So 98 grads, and we’ve got a lot to celebrate,” he said. “They’re a great, great group to work with in general—not just clinically, but on the personal level as well.”
The event brought back nearly half of all graduates since the program’s founding in 1997.
“We’re inviting back a lot of graduates. I think there’s well over 40 of our alumni here, plus the graduates,” House said. “So we’re pushing 50% of our alumni.”
One former resident, the first of the program, Dr. William Thornbury, reflected on what it meant to return to the place where their medical career began.
“You know, just to come back and see the people that helped you, that trained you—I mean, it’s really heartwarming,” he said. “It’s very fulfilling.”
