Community Comes Together for Laughs at Barn Lot Theater’s “The Nerd”
EDMONTON, Ky. (WNKY) – A small-town theater is getting big laughs this month with its production of The Nerd at Barn Lot Theater.
The comedy, written by Larry Shue, is in the middle of an eight-show run during this June. It features a cast made up of local talent, including several first-time performers.
“This is our play The Nerd, and this is our fourth showing,” said co-director Julie Adkins. “Sandy and I are co-directing the show. It’s a lot of work. We’re usually on the other side of this.”
Adkins said putting the show together took months of preparation, not just rehearsals, but meetings in and out of the theater to bring everything together.
Community members from across Metcalfe County and beyond are filling the seats.
“People say it’s like an undiscovered treasure,” said co-director Sandy Roberts Dunn. “They’re genuinely surprised when they come see the quality of the set, the quality of acting… and they come back.”
Roberts added that the theater draws in patrons from surrounding counties and even other parts of the state.
“This is a belly laugher,” Adkins said. “Come enjoy The Nerd.”
Performances continue Thursday and go through June 29. Tickets are available through the theater’s website or Facebook page.
