Emergency funding to help rebuild flood-damaged road in Metcalfe Co.
EDMONTON, Ky. – Rep. Amy Neighbors (R-Edmonton) announced Tuesday the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has approved $770,000 in emergency road funding in Metcalfe County.
According to a release by the Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber, the funding will address severe and recurring flooding along Kentucky Highway 640 between the Wisdom and Knob Lick communities.
The chamber says flooding has made this section of road impassable for months.
“This isn’t a new problem for the people of Metcalfe County – it’s a repeated hardship,” Neighbors said. “When I saw that the road was once again underwater, I immediately contacted transportation secretary Jim Gray and began advocating for urgent action. I’m grateful that we now have the commitment and resources necessary to fix this problem the right way.”
Since then, the release states Neighbors has worked closely with Gray, Sen. Max Wise, chief district engineer Joe Plunk and Metcalfe County Emergency Management director Adam Bennett to explore solutions.
The release further states funding approval for a project will raise the road out of the flood-prone area.
The allocation will cover the design and construction, as well as any associated right-of-way or utility work.
Construction is expected to start next spring.
