A scary good time: ‘Friday the 13th’ screening brings chills to the Lost River Cave
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s the only Friday the 13th of the year, and the Lost River Cave is leaning into the spooky vibes in the best way possible—by screening the original Friday the 13th horror film underground.
As part of its popular “Movies in the Cave” series, Lost River Cave is transforming its iconic Cavern Night Club into a one-of-a-kind theater experience. With natural stone walls, trickling water, and eerie echoes, the setting brings a haunting atmosphere that horror fans won’t soon forget.
“The cave itself makes for a special viewing experience,” said Kate Holmes, the Lost River Cave’s membership manager. “But when it’s a scary movie like this, it just takes it to another level. The atmosphere really adds to the suspense.”
The event has become a regional attraction, pulling in movie lovers from across South Central Kentucky and beyond. But for the team behind the scenes, it’s not just about entertainment—it’s also about building community and supporting the park.
“Our park members are the lifeblood of our organization,” Holmes said. “They’re the ones who show up all year, especially when we’re dealing with challenges like flooding. Their support keeps the cave going.”
The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free for all Lost River Cave members. For anyone who wants to become a member it’s $40—but the price includes a range of perks, including future event access and support for the park’s conservation efforts.
