Butler County Public Library offers free fishing poles to community

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – A new program at the Butler County Public Library is perfect for families wanting to get out on the lake this summer.

In partnership with a local member of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen, the library is now letting kids check out fishing poles and gear, just like a library book.

The library has eight poles and tackle boxes available, and local students will be on hand to help if any issues come up.

With Morgantown and Butler County sitting near the Green River, this program opens the door for more young people to get outdoors and learn a new skill.

“We’re close to the Rochester Dam,” library director Kenna Martin said. “We’re close to the community of Woodbury, which the Green River surrounds, and… it’s providing free equipment for families to go out and spend time together and make memories this summer but it’s also encouraging that strong tradition that we’re proud of… being outside along the river. We’re really excited about it.”

The poles are now available at the Butler County Public Library, and kids can check them out for up to three weeks at a time.
