Logan County Public Library kicking off summer with events

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – One local library is making a splash into summer.

The Logan County Public Library is bringing free events to the public all summer long. This year’s theme, “Color Our World,” focuses on art and community.

Throughout the months of June and July, the library will host various craft days, camps and local field trips. The library is partnering with various local businesses to put on these events.

There are also several classes and fun activities for middle and high school ages. Adults are encouraged to attend Make-It Mondays, where they can participate in the fun, too.

Each kid can participate in a summer learning program. The program includes small tasks for various ages, like reading for 20 minutes a day or cooking a simple meal for loved ones.

To show a task is compete, kids will color in one paint ‘splat.’ After all the tasks are completed, kids have a chance to win prizes.

While the library prides themselves in a packed full calendar, they say the main goal is providing children with opportunities.

Kind Sampson, director of the Logan County Public Library, says it is a wonderful feeling to “bring free programs and events here to the community.”

He says it helps families spend time together. He also says allowing kids to “stay engaged” during summer helps them continue to learn and “have a great time.”

After many years of this summer program, library workers say they believe this is the best year yet.
