Young athletes hit the court for WKU’s Lil’ Topper Volleyball Camp

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The summer camp season kicked off at Western Kentucky University with a day full of energy, smiles and volleyball fundamentals as young athletes took part in WKU’s Lil’ Topper Camp.

Hosted inside the Hilltoppers’ Diddle Arena, the camp welcomed children from kindergarten through sixth grade for a hands-on experience led by WKU volleyball coaches and players. The focus? Learning the basics, building confidence and having fun.

“It’s really important as a kid to explore all the different sports and become versatile,” said Callahan Wiegandt, a senior setter for WKU Volleyball. “Giving back to the kids we see at our games all the time is really rewarding.”

Beyond drills and skill work, the camp gave kids a taste of what it’s like to play on a college court while also offering a chance to make new friends and build lasting memories.

For Wiegandt and her teammates, the camp wasn’t just about coaching — it was about giving back to a community that’s supported them from the stands.

“The city of Bowling Green has really given me a lot. It’s become a second home while I’m at college,” Wiegandt said. “Being able to give back through camps like this means a lot.”

Although Wednesday was the final day of the Lil’ Topper Camp, WKU has plenty more summer programs coming up – including the All Skills Camp for grades seven through 12, which runs June 11-13.
