Below BG, Part 2: “The Solution”, new ideas coming
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Under the city of Bowling Green, there’s a lot of history to be seen. Old pipes laid decades ago along with limestone that haven’t seen the sun since the early 1900s.
Drainage infrastructure is out of date and some things are in states of failure, but there are no indicators that Bowling Green is in any immediate danger but that doesn’t mean that replacements and fixes aren’t needed as soon as possible.
With the rain events becoming more intense over the years and development continuing to cause changes to the underground, relying solely on the caves to drain the rain is no longer a viable option. The stormwater utility fee is the city’s answer at this point as they set out to develop new ideas to mitigate flooding.
The money would allow the city to buy land and build new drainage systems along with various other things in the name of handling stormwater.
