The Courageous Cup coffee shop opens at Barren County High School

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Giving every student the chance to learn life skills can truly change the trajectory of a young person’s life. In Barren County, that opportunity is becoming a reality for many students.

The community is celebrating the grand opening of The Courageous Cup, a student-led coffee shop at Barren County High School. Staff and dozens of local supporters gathered to honor the students behind the counter, many of whom have mild or moderate mental disabilities.

The shop gives these students the chance to build confidence, gain courage and develop important social and job skills.

Evan Kuhnke, a cashier at The Courageous Cup, shared that working there helps him reach his goals and gain real-life experience. By rotating roles and handling responsibilities, students are actively preparing for life beyond high school.

The lessons learned at The Courageous Cup are setting the foundation for independence, brighter futures and lasting success.
