Western Kentucky University unveils future plans for Cherry Hall renovation
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After over 50 years, an iconic building on Western Kentucky University’s campus will be getting a new look with a multi-million dollar renovation.
Cherry Hall, one of the oldest buildings that sits on WKU’s campus, will be undergoing a renovation to bring a new look to the university’s most famous academic building.
Cherry Hall, which first opened in 1937, has been the center of Western’s academic scene, playing home to thousands of students within the Potter College of Arts and Letters.
And while the building will look very different inside after the renovations are complete, the university is taking careful steps to preserve the history that has been made at Cherry Hall.
Timothy Caboni, president of Western Kentucky University, says, “So one of the things we needed to make sure we did was preserve the rich history of what is an iconic structure for our campus. Cherry Hall is not just a classroom building. It is a symbol, and it represents WKU in many ways. And our alumni have memories of walking up the marble stairs and carving their footsteps into the institution’s history.”
The project is expected to start in the summer of this year, with the grand reopening of Cherry Hall happening sometime in 2027.
