City Nature Challenge helps South Central Kentucky explore natural world

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lost River Cave is partnering with the Warren County Public Library to take part in a nature initiative that looks to get South Central Kentucky out and about and exploring the world around them.

The City Nature Challenge is a competition between various regions across the US, and the Bowling Green area is going against Lexington, Frankfort and Louisville right here in Kentucky.

The area includes all counties in South Central Kentucky, from Barren to Logan and everywhere in between.

All you do is open an app called “I-Naturalist” and scan any plants or animals you see.

“The event is scheduled during a time when things are blooming, things are growing. You’re starting to see signs of life in nature once again… and it gives you an opportunity to just kind of take part in some friendly competition,” Caroline Galdi, the education coordinator with Lost River Cave, says.

The challenge ends at midnight Monday and you can even take part in your backyard or any site in South Central Kentucky like Mammoth Cave.

Just download the app and take pictures of any plants or animals you see at your home, and upload them to the app to help the Bowling Green area win the City Nature Challenge in Kentucky.
