Congress to vote on Take It Down Act this week

WASHINGTON – Across the country, families’ lives have been forever impacted by sextortion. Sextortion has only become more impactful as artificial intelligence has continued to progress.

The House of Representatives is now taking the next step to try and prevent more lives from being ruined by sextortion. This week, Congress will convene to vote on the Take It Down Act, a bill to both protect victims of sextortion and revenge pornography, while giving authorities more resources to track down those who are committing these crimes.

Congressman Brett Guthrie, who serves Kentucky’s 2nd district, which includes cities like Bowling Green and Glasgow, took to the floor on Capitol Hill to ask his colleagues to vote yes on the bill.

“The heart wrenching stories we’ve heard tells us all we need to know. It is time to send the Take It Down Act to the president’s desk, so we can give survivors and law enforcement the tools they need to combat this crisis. Urge my colleagues to vote in favor for this legislation,” Guthrie said.

Guthrie recently experienced the horrors of sextortion as one of his constituents took their life after being victimized by a sextortion scheme. Guthrie has taken a strong stance in support of the bill.

The vote could come as early as Monday night.
