DeWitt returns to head coach position for ACS Lady Patriot hoops
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Monday afternoon, a familiar face in the Allen County-Scottsville athletic community was introduced as the next head coach for Lady Patriot basketball.
Garry DeWitt will serve his third stint as head coach at ACS, succeeding former coach Greg Dunn after the 2024-25 season.
DeWitt is no stranger to the Lady Patriots, spending 17 total seasons either as a head or assistant coach within the program.
During his first go round, ACS climbed back atop the fourth region, winning three straight titles from 1999-2001, and after a 93-54 record across five seasons, DeWitt stepped down from coaching to pursue administrative duties.
It wasn’t too much longer before DeWitt returned to the first seat on the Lady Patriot sideline, as he was head coach once again from 2004-2007.
The second stint saw a 34-47 record.
Now, as the saying goes, the third time is the charm, with DeWitt back as the head coach at ACS, and this time with the title of “Hall of Famer” by his name, following his induction into the school’s athletic class in 2018.
After being re-introduced as head coach, DeWitt shared his excitement and expectations for the team going forward.
“ I’m telling you, these lady Patriots are going to earn it every day, they’re going to earn it every day. I’m not promising a championship, but I am promising a championship effort. That’s what I’m promising,” DeWitt said. “These girls are excited about it. I’m excited about it, so we’re going to work hard, and these girls are going to be ready to play. We’re going to be very competitive in the fourth region and 15th district.”
