GLASGOW, Ky. – A Purple Star recognition ceremony is slated to take place next week at Barren County High School.

The Purple Star designation helps military parents know that, whether they are on active duty, in the National Guard or the Reserves, that the school is dedicated to helping their child gain skills needed for college, the workforce and life, according to the district.

According to the district, a 2020 report by the Military Child Education Coalition states 77% of military parents whose children attended a Purple Star school reported their children having a satisfactory to very satisfactory socio-emotional experience, with only 54% at non-Purple Star schools.

Barren County Schools says the recognition ceremony will be held Monday, April 28 at 9 a.m. at the Barren County High School JROTC facility.

State Rep. Steve Riley will also speak about the importance of schools in Kentucky becoming Purple Star schools, officials say.

A reception will immediately follow the recognition ceremony.

Officials say the JROTC facility is on the Barren County High School campus.
