Free self defense class to be hosted at Franklin Police Department
FRANKLIN, Ky. – Being prepared to defend yourself in unpredictable situations is a top priority for many women.
One local law enforcement agency is stepping up to make that preparation more accessible. The Franklin Police Department is offering a free self-defense class designed specifically for females ages 16 through 60. The course focuses on essential skills like situational awareness, reading body language and basic strike techniques.
Detective Jenna Trodglen, who helps lead the class, says it’s less about strength and more about knowing how to move.
“It’s not about power and strength. It’s more about skill and technique,” she explained. “As long as you know how to do the move, you’ll be able to throw a 200-pound man.” Participants leave the class feeling more confident in their ability to handle tough situations.
Officer Kelci Keen emphasized the importance of these classes, stating, “As a police officer, we can’t be everywhere at once. A woman needs to know she is safe in her own hands.”
The last day to sign up for this session is April 18.
The Franklin Police Department also offers other programs focused on women’s safety and empowerment. More details on upcoming classes will be shared as they become available.
