Glasgow telecommunicator speaks during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

GLASGOW, Ky. – April 14 through April 18 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

This time of year is a time to recognize dispatchers who dedicate their time and serve the community and the first responders on the scene.

News 40 made a stop in Barren County and learned that the bridge between first responders and emergency callers is not an easy load to carry.

Ariel Burnett, a telecommunicator in Glasgow, tells us, “It’s a gap. It’s a big gap to fill. And it’s a lot of weight. They it’s it’s especially when, you know, working in dispatch, we get to know a lot of our first responders, and so we build bonds with them. And it’s like family. And so is a huge pressure to step up to the plate, but I think any of us in that room would say any day that’s just a plate we choose to step up to.”

Along with honoring dispatchers who calm chaos, telecommunicators want you to remember, if you’re ever in an emergency situation, let them know your location if you can so that the dispatcher can find you during difficult times.
