BRAWA relocates to Happy Valley Road Elementary temporarily
GLASGOW, Ky. – One of the many local organizations being impacted by the floods is the Barren River Animal Welfare Association, or BRAWA… as they are being forced to relocate temporarily.
In the past, the shelter has been easily susceptible to flooding, but with a new pump system installed, that has helped keep water below a certain level.
However, with excessive flooding like we’ve seen, water has gotten to the level of that pump, causing the shelter to relocate temporarily to the former Happy Valley Road Elementary School, or the Glasgow Preschool Academy.
“We were very fortunate that our bank… the banking system that we put in and the pump system are working. They’re working like they’re supposed to. The problem was the water got to the level of the pump, how hard it would have to work, and if the water would then come up over the berm. We’ve never seen water like this in Barren County,” BRAWA general manager Connie Greer says.
The shelter is looking for volunteers to take care of their dogs, as well as any cleaning supply donations.
You can drop those off at the GPA located on West Cherry Street. Just come to the side door behind the BRAWA bus.
