South Warren’s Haris Shahbaz places 4th in the USTA Spring National Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green’s Haris Shahbaz is leaving quite a mark on the tennis courts in Kentucky and across the nation.

At just 12-years old, Shahbaz is ranked 10th nationally in tennis for boys aged 12 and under, as well as ranked No. 1 in the Bluegrass.

Shahbaz recently traveled to California for the 2025 Fila Easter Bowl, the prestigious USTA Spring National Championship with only 64 players.

Shahbaz placed 4th in Boys 12U Singles, an outstanding achievement to bring home to Bowling Green.

“ It was really cool playing at a competitive level,” Shahbaz said. “It’s hard and it’s also fun at the same time because you get to hang out with a lot of friends.”

Shabaz picked up a tennis racquet for the first time at three years old and hasn’t put it down since.

His talents on the court have led to him joining the varsity South Warren tennis team at just 12-years old, and now he’s in the midst of his first season with the Spartans.

But even though this seventh grader is just beginning his varsity career, it doesn’t mean he’s not already thinking about his future.

“Hopefully when I turn 13, I want to try playing in international tournaments,” Shahbaz said. “And maybe when I get to 16 or 17, I want to try to play pro.”
