LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bowling Green Purples are advancing to their third state title appearance in program history after Saturday morning’s 73-51 win over South Oldham in the KHSAA Sweet 16 Semifinals.

The Purples had their best first half in the state tournament so far, shooting 63.6% (7-11) through the first two quarters to hold an 11-point lead over the Dragons at halftime.

On the other end, while Bowling Green was hot from beyond the arc, it also kept South Oldham quiet at the three-point line, holding the team to going just 4-17 during that first half of regulation.

Starting the second half, the Purples continued to stay ahead and even held their biggest lead of the game at 24 points with under two minutes left in the matchup.

Joe Hurt lead Bowling Green in scoring with 26 points while Luke Idlett was right behind with 12 points, all from three-pointers.

Jace Wardlow and Kadyn Carpenter combined to bring down nearly half of the team’s rebounds with seven boards a piece.

The Purples now advance to the state title game with the winner of Great Crossing vs. Montgomery County on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
