Hilltoppers come up short against Louisville

BOWLING GREEN, Ky– WKU Softball came up short in a hard-fought battle against Louisville on Tuesday.

WKU (15-14 overall, 2-6 CUSA) was able to tie at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but Louisville (20-12, 3-6 ACC) was able to score in the top of the sixth to secure the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

WKU 2, Louisville 3

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first, sophomore outfielder Kendle White got the Tops’ bats going with a double down the left field line.

With one aboard, fellow second-year Morgan Sharpe moved White to third with a flyout to center, while designated hitter Maci Masters brought her in with a sacrifice fly of her own.

In the home half of the fifth, freshman outfielder Charlotte Herron was issued a four-pitch, bases loaded walk to bring in the second run of the evening.

Sophomore right-hander Rylan Smith was able to keep the Cardinals at bay for four innings until giving up her own bases loaded walk in the sixth as Louisville scored the go-ahead run.
