Open Door Community Center at Broadway UMC hosts “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Open Door Community Center with Broadway United Methodist Church began their series called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” Thursday.

The series opened with City of Bowling Green International Communities Liaison Leyda Becker talking about the different international groups that are in Bowling Green.

The main topics were not only learning about which groups are here, but how to build better relationships with them, which Becker says is incredibly important especially considering the current climate we live in today.

“The worst thing that we want is for pockets of isolated communities that are just not able to really connect, because it really hinders their opportunity to learn the language and become economically self-sufficient… it’s those connections and building that safety net,” she says.

Staff with Open Door say they look forward to doing more talks like these in the future, and already have Hotel Inc. as the next organization that plans to talk about the unhoused population here in Bowling Green.
