Remembering Breonna Taylor, 5 years later
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- In 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was fatally shot in her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, during a botched raid by plainclothes narcotics detectives searching for a suspected drug dealer; no drugs were found, and the “no-knock” warrant used to enter by force was later found to be based on false information.
For Taylor’s family and supporters, March 13th is a somber day but also a reminder of their ongoing fight for police. It was reiterated by city and community leaders during an observance at City Hall.
Bianca Austin, Breonna Taylor’s aunt, had this to say about her passing: “Let’s just remember her as the loving light she was. It’s not about … No personal agenda today … We need to remember the life that was lost that could have been avoided … The people’s consent decree is the solution.”
