Senator Rand Paul talks tariffs and daylight saving time
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Across the nation, tariffs are a growing concern as President Trump established tariffs against countries like Canada, Mexico and China.
And that concern is shared here in Kentucky as well. From bourbon to cars, and auto parts many are worried about the impact tariffs could have on businesses and people all across the state. In Canada, businesses are pulling Kentucky bourbon off shelves, refusing to sell it. While in Bowling Green, Senator Paul touched on Trump’s tariffs and whether he thinks they will be good for business in the long run.
“Tariffs are a bad idea. I’m opposed to tariffs. Tariffs are a tax. And if you tax something, you get less of it. So if you tax trade, you get less trade. International trade has made us a rich country and made us rich. Altogether, all you gotta do is go to Georgetown, Kentucky, and talk to the people who work on the assembly line. They make between 70 and $120,000 a year. They’ve got great health insurance. I work for a foreign and foreign company. So we shouldn’t be afraid of foreign companies, particularly ones who want to invest in our country” Paul said about Trump’s tariff plans.
Paul also touched on daylight saving time as we have just switched forward our clocks. Paul said he is a proponent of getting rid of the time switch and even mentioned an interesting addition that would affect Bowling Green.
“I love having more light in the particularly the fall. I would go one step further. I would take the Eastern Time zone that’s in Louisville that kind of comes down and misses Bowling Green. I’d put Bowling Green in it because then if you stayed on the standard summer hours and you were in Eastern Time Zone, then went another hour later, so really you’d have light in the summertime to 830 or nine” Paul said.
Senator Paul now heads back to Washington as both the House and the Senate get ready for important votes.
