WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper Baseball Outfielder Ryan Wideman
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Player of the Week honor goes to Hilltopper baseball outfielder Ryan Wideman!
The Tops are off to a historic start to the season, winning 11 of their first 12 games, which has only happened twice in program history, with the only other time being in 1928.
A new face on this year’s squad is Wideman, who came to the Hill following two seasons at Georgia Highlands College, and the junior has made an immediate impact in Bowling Green.
Looking back on the strong week he had in the team’s games against Eastern Kentucky and Central Michigan, Wideman hit .527 with 14 hits, five of those being extra base hits, and two of those being home runs.
Against the Colonels last Tuesday, the outfielder tallied four hits, marking the most he’s had in a single game this season, and in Saturday’s contest with the Chippewas, Wideman finished just a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
Next up for the Hilltoppers is a four-game series at home this weekend against UNC Asheville.
First pitch in Friday’s series opener against the Bulldogs at Nick Denes Field is set for 3 p.m.
