Beshear orders state of emergency ahead of possible flooding
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency as a flood watch is in effect for early Saturday through midday Sunday.
According to a release by the governor’s office, an additional 2 to 5 inches of rain is expected to combine with previous rainfall, which is likely to result in flooding across Kentucky.
Significant flooding is possible and may include isolated flash flooding. The National Weather Service says river flooding is likely over the weekend through next week.
“We want everyone to be careful,” Beshear said. “The amount of rain coming down will make it hard to drive, and flash flooding, especially across our roads, can create dangerous conditions. And remember, don’t drive through standing water, it can have a current, and it is incredibly dangerous.”
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky emergency operations center, Kentucky National Guard and local emergency management leaders are on alert and ready to respond and keep Kentuckians informed.
The governor’s office also says the state’s price gouging laws have been implemented to protect state residents from overpriced goods and services.
Consumers should report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General.
