UPDATE: Man charged with murder of teen in Audley Ave shooting

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department responded to a complaint of shots fired at 110 Audley Ave. at 1:48 a.m. on Sunday.

At the scene, officers located a dead 16-year-old male, Jamarco Dye, in the backyard of the apartment complex. The male sustained several gunshot wounds, according to police.

BGPD public information officer Ronnie Ward says Tylan J. Barnett, 22 of Bowling Green, told police detectives that he was present at the apartment. According to police, Barnett stated he was at the apartment after his sister told him someone was attempting to break into the residence.

Police say Barnett told them he saw two people outside and thought they were those who attempted to break into. Barnett allegedly exited the apartment and fired shots in in the direction of Dye, striking him.

Barnett allegedly told police the firearm was placed in a brush line near the apartment.

Barnett is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. He is lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
