Rep. Guthrie discusses impeachment, Bevin’s pardons and more in interview with WNKY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Rep. Brett Guthrie is back in Bowling Green after a consequential week in Washington, D.C.

The Republican stopped by the WNKY studio on Friday to discuss a wide array of topics, including voting NO on both articles of impeachment.

Guthrie remains adamant that President Trump did nothing wrong and was not seeking dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden during a phone call with the president of Ukraine.

“There’s no claim of a federal crime, a state crime, or a violation of a local ordinance. None of that,” said Guthrie. “The Constitution says impeachment is for treason and bribery. The Democrats tried to make a bribery case, but the facts weren’t there.”

Yet, Guthrie was critical of President Trump when asked about recent comments toward the late Rep. John Dingell. The president suggested that the Democrat from Michigan was in Hell. Dingell’s wife, Debbie, is a member of Congress who has worked with Guthrie on a number of bipartisan issues.

“It was inappropriate. I don’t think anyone should judge where anyone’s soul is going to go. We all want everybody’s soul to go to heaven. It was not appropriate. He shouldn’t have said that. It was wrong, absolutely wrong,” said Guthrie.

Guthrie also spoke out against former Republican Gov. Matt Bevin’s recent decision to issue hundreds of pardons, including some for convicted murderers and rapists.

“The governor was wrong. I think the pardons were wrong. I don’t understand it,” said Guthrie.
