Potter Gray students learn about the solar system
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Do you know how big the moon is? Or how many earths can fit inside the sun?
The students at Potter Gray Elementary learned the answers and so much more about the solar system.
The Orbit Earth Expo travels to schools teaching kids from kindergarten to seventh grade about the wonders of the solar system. Giant inflatables of the sun, earth and moon offer an opportunity to learn about the phases of the moon, eclipses and many other occurrences that happen just beyond our atmosphere.
Lead teacher Pete Dunlap says traveling around and inspiring young minds while offering an out of this world experience is what its all about.
“For one, it’s about to keep the curiosity rolling. And so if you see the size of this earth, when you bring in, you know, these giant models and things like this, and we show demonstrations about how giant the sun is or how tiny the earth is, you get that curiosity going. And I really like it when the kids leave with sort of more questions than they have answers because it encourages them to kind of continue with the science” Dunlap said.
Dunlap says that if the kids leave with more questions than answers, that’s a great thing, because questions are how you unlock the keys to the solar system.
