Lady Toppers take on Jacksonville State on Thursday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU women’s basketball hits the road for the first time in conference play with a contest at Jacksonville State on Thursday, Jan. 9. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Jacksonville.

ABOUT THE TOPS

Four different WKU players are averaging double-digit points this season: Alexis Mead – 14.3 PPG, Destiny Salary – 13.1 PPG, Acacia Hayes – 12.7 PPG, Josie Gilvin – 10.4 PPG. WKU has had six different leading scorers through 14 games this season. Destiny Salary has led the team five times and Alexis Mead has led four times. Acacia Hayes has led the team twice and Zsofia Telegdy, Josie Gilvin and Mackenzie Chatfield have each led the team once.

The Lady Toppers are averaging 12.9 steals per game this season, which is the 16th best rate in the country. Three different Lady Toppers are top 10 in steals per game in CUSA (Alexis Mead: 3.07, 1st; Josie Gilvin: 2.79, 5th,, Acacia Hayes: 2.46, 7th).

WKU went undefeated in November with a perfect 6-0 record in the month. It’s the first time a Lady Topper team has notched an undefeated record through a whole month (3 games played minimum) since going 7-0 in February of 2017.

Five Lady Toppers come to Bowling Green internationally, which is the highest number of international athletes WKU women’s basketball has had on one team in program history.

The Lady Toppers were picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll, behind Middle Tennessee, Liberty and FIU and above Louisiana Tech in fifth.

SERIES INFORMATION

Thursday’s game will be the third meeting all-time between WKU and Jax State. Both previous matchups came last season with WKU winning both.

ABOUT THE GAMECOCKS

Jax State defeated Kennesaw State, 68-56, in the first week of the conference play to start 1-0 in CUSA.

In non-conference play, the Gamecocks had wins over Life, New Orleans, Sewanee, UAB South Carolina State and Southern Utah and losses to Arizona State, Missouri, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston and Utah Valley.

Jax State is led in scoring by Bre’Anna Rhodes, who is averaging 9.5 points per game. Mya Barnes is leading the team on the boards, pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game.
