WKU Athletics Player of the Week: Lucas Carneiro

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Athletics Player of the Week award goes to Hilltopper football kicker Lucas Carneiro!

In Saturday’s regular season finale against Jacksonville State, Carneiro broke the record for most consecutive field goals made with his first of the game, but went on to make three more, pushing that record to 15 straight field goals on the season.

The redshirt sophomore accounted for 13 of the Tops 19 points against the Gamecocks, including the game-winning 50-yard field goal with just three seconds left in the fourth quarter, and the performance led to his third Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week award of the year.

Carneiro has gone perfect in 2024 in extra point attempts, making all 39 tries, and has missed just one of his 16 field goal attempts, with the lone miss against Alabama in Tuscaloosa in the season opener.

After sending his team to the Conference USA Championship with his last-second kick, Carneiro is prepared to be called upon at any moment this Friday in Jacksonville, Alabama.
