Florida couple’s move to Kentucky brings luck with $50,000 Powerball win

KUTTAWA, Ky. – A couple is celebrating a $50,000 Powerball win just a month after moving to Kentucky.
According to lottery officials, the couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought their Powerball ticket Saturday, Oct. 19 at a BP in Kuttawa only hours before the drawing.
Lottery officials say the next morning, they realized they had the winning numbers.
The couple drove to Kentucky Lottery headquarters Oct. 22 to claim their prize. Lottery officials say the couple told them they are originally from Florida.
“We moved just a few weeks before the first hurricane (Helene) hit. Then we win the Powerball,” the wife said.
The win came at the perfect time, lottery officials say, since the couple says their new home needs a repair.
“We just moved and found out there was an issue with the foundation, but I do want a boat,” the wife joked.
After taxes, the couple claimed a check for $36,000.
BP will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
