WKU Athletics Player of the Week: Acacia Hayes

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For this week’s WKU Athletics Player of the Week, we honor Lady Topper basketball guard Acacia Hayes.

Hayes played a big part in the team’s 2-0 start with wins over Indiana State and Kentucky State.

In the season opener against the Sycamores, she tallied 10 steals on the night, tying a school record in that category, as well as setting a career high for herself.

Against Kentucky state, another personal best was made as Hayes grabbed six rebounds against the Thorobreds.

The career accolades didn’t stop there, as the junior guard tied her personal best in assists against Indiana State in last Monday’s opener, and shot 57 percent from three-point range, putting her in the second spot throughout Conference USA.

The Lady Toppers would move to 3-0 on Tuesday night with a 78-54 win at Mercer, and Hayes, once again, stepped up for her team, leading the game in scoring with 21 points.

Next up for Coach Collins and his squad is a meeting with the Abilene Christian Wildcats next Thursday in Texas.
