WKU Athletics Player of the Week: Darius Thomas

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Athletics Player of the Week is Hilltopper Linebacker Darius Thomas!

Thomas has been one of the strongest pieces of the Hilltopper defense this season, totaling 31 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble on the year.

His performance came up clutch for the Tops last week against Kennesaw State late in the game, getting to the opposing quarterback twice in the final quarter, and at the end of the contest, he had racked up six total tackles with three being for loss.

This marks year three on the Hill for the linebacker, but only his second season seeing the turf after missing all of 2023 with an injury, but he’s excelled under defensive coordinator Tyson Summers, helping hold opponents to under 21 points in seven straight games.

WKU became bowl eligible for the sixth straight season with their win over Kennesaw, and Thomas recently shared more on his big night against the Owls.

“The way I played in that game, it was a team effort all around, for real,” Thomas said. “We all went out there and did what we were supposed to do. Me individually, myself, I feel like I had a good game. You know, Coach Summers dialed up a couple of blitzes for me later on in the game, and it just all fell through, thanks to God.”
