DSSKY Celebrates Down Syndrome Awareness Month
BOWLING GREEN, KY.-During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, it’s essential to recognize the challenges faced by individuals with Down syndrome and how these can be alleviated with the right tools and resources. Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky (DSSKY) is a rare and invaluable resource, with fewer than 20 similar organizations across the United States. Located in Bowling Green, DSSKY offers vital support through their life skills programs, empowering individuals and their families.
Stephanie Morton, the Executive Director of DSSKY, emphasizes the community aspect of their organization. “Our group functions much like a family,” she explains. “We’re always there to support each other and help out no matter what.” This unique support system is complemented by the fact that only three facilities like theirs exist in the entire state of Kentucky.
To celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month, DSSKY is partnering with Spillway Bar and Grill for a special event this week, inviting the community to join in raising awareness and support. Through initiatives like these, DSSKY continues to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment for those affected by Down syndrome.
