Hurricane experience: A local teacher’s perspective

FLORIDA KEYS – If you follow News 40 on social media, you might have seen a request to share experiences during or ahead of the hurricane in Florida.

One unexpected response came from a local school teacher currently vacationing near the Keys. Faith Coles, a kindergarten teacher from Richardsville Elementary School, is bravely riding out the storm, marking it as a unique item on her bucket list. Despite the swirling winds and heavy rains, she’s keeping a watchful eye for a familiar face.

“Yesterday was a very unusual day,” Faith shared. “We were under a tropical storm warning, and we’re still under a tropical storm warning, but according to the locals we’ve talked to, if Jim Cantore is around, that means you need to get out very, very quick.”

As Hurricane Milton escalates to a Category Five storm, many residents and visitors are reminded of the unpredictable nature of such events.
