Bowling Green celebrates Dia de Los Muertos with community ofrenda at Kentucky Museum

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At the Kentucky Museum in Bowling Green, the community will be able to participate and observe a Mexican holiday that is now a tradition for the folklife program at Western Kentucky University.

News 40 spoke to exhibit creator Camille Acosta as the folklife specialist has erected the second annual community ofrenda, a reminder of home for herself and a new shot of culture to the community. Acosta who identifies as a Mexican American, said she was homesick when she came up with the idea of celebrating Dia de Los Muertos away from home.

Acosta said Dia De Los Muertos is “one of the most beautiful traditions in Mexican culture” and said she encourages the whole community to come visit the exhibit when possible.

The community ofrenda will be up from October 2 to November 2 this year.
