Kentucky’s Suicide Review Board works on awareness and prevention
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults in Kentucky.
According to a recent Kentucky Youth Risk Behavior Survey published in September, 1 in 7 Kentucky high school students reported having seriously considered suicide within a 12-month period. Now, one organization in Louisville is working to bring more resources to prevent suicide.
The Department of Health and Wellness Suicide Fatality Review group is trying to make it less taboo to talk about suicide awareness and prevention. The workgroup was created in May of 2023 and included 30 people representing 20 different organizations.
The goal of this group is to identify missed opportunities for intervention and also educate the public when it comes to trends of suicide here in Jefferson County and around the entire state of Kentucky.
