Bowling Green FOP hands out food baskets for Thanksgiving

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Those struggling to afford a Thanksgiving Meal in our community are getting some extra help from the Fraternal Order of Police.

Turkeys, eggs, milk and bread are just some of the items found in the boxes that went out for delivery Monday morning.

It’s enough food for those in need to have a proper meal this Thanksgiving holiday, a lot of it provided by Feeding America.

Recipients of the boxes include veterans, and those in public housing. The Bowling Green Housing Authority and American Legion helped put together lists of those in need.

The president of the Bowling Green chapter of the FOP calls it a great opportunity to give back to the community they serve every day.

“Normally when we show up we’re there because they’re either a suspect of a crime or a victim of a crime. Neither time is a good time for them. So, this is a great time for us to be there on good mutual terms, and just give a hand up to somebody,” said Robert Perry.
The FOP has been putting on the thanksgiving food basket program for the last 40 years.
