Highlighting resources for Deaf Awareness Month in south-central Kentucky
METCALFE COUNTY, Ky.- In celebration of Deaf Awareness Month, we shine a light on an invaluable resource in south-central Kentucky: Metcalfe County Schools.
This institution is dedicated to supporting students who are hard of hearing or deaf by providing essential resources and strategies that extend beyond the classroom. The program not only enhances educational experiences but also equips students with skills they will carry into adulthood.
Charlotte Roach, a dedicated Metcalfe County Schools teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing, emphasizes the importance of this initiative.
“To be able to help these students who might not get the opportunities they need is incredibly rewarding,” she says. The joy of witnessing students grasp concepts is a moment she cherishes deeply.
During a regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Metcalfe Board of Education also approved a contract to provide hearing-impaired services to students at Barren County Schools, further extending support to a local county.
