Veltkamp to make collegiate starting debut for WKU
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Caden Veltkamp is preparing to start under center for the first time in his college career, after Hilltopper quarterback TJ Finley was ruled out for a few weeks due to a lower leg injury he suffered in Murfreesboro.
Veltkamp stepped up after Finley’s injury and helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 49-21 victory over Middle Tennessee State, passing for 398 yards and five touchdowns.
The Bowling Green native expressed his excitement to start for the Tops against Toledo on Saturday in addition to his teammates expressing their confidence in Veltkamp.
“I’ve just seen the way that he works, the way that he’s transformed from a high school guy to a college guy, and I have no doubt that he’s going to step in there and do what he does best. and that’s just compete,” WKU center Evan Wibberley said. “He’s a great competitor. There’s no one else that I think is ready to take that place but Caden.”
“I am very excited. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time now,” Veltkamp said. “I haven’t started a game since December 4th of 2021, so it’s been a long time but at the end of day, it’s still ball. It’s the same game and I’m excited to get out there.”
