Governor Beshear declares August 31st Overdose Awareness Day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – During his Team Kentucky Update Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear declared Saturday, August 31st as Overdose Awareness Day in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Beshear mentioned that flags at all state buildings will be lowered to half staff, and the Governor’s Mansion will be lit purple in support of the families who have lost loved ones.
He also thanked first responders who are out in the community saving lives from overdoses every single day… and reiterated how important saving these lives are.
“The answer to how many times we should revive someone who’s overdosing is every single time… That is someone’s loved one. That is someone’s world. That is someone’s father, mother, son, daughter, friend, cousin, aunt or uncle,” Beshear says.
A mother from Louisville who lost her son to overdose also spoke, thanking Beshear for his support for her family and countless others.
