New green space, ‘The Fringe’, coming to downtown Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A long-time gravel lot in downtown Bowling Green is undergoing a significant transformation into a vibrant new green space.
Named “The Fringe” for its lush turf and its location on the edge of several popular downtown venues, this new area looks to become a lively spot for relaxation and socializing.
The Fringe will feature seating areas and dedicated space for food trucks, offering residents and visitors a new way to enjoy the downtown area. Situated beside the downtown parking structure and near the Bowling Green Ballpark, the project is expected to breathe new life into a lot that has been vacant for many years.
“We want this to look nice and, you know, for whatever reason, it’s just had some bad luck,” says Bowling Green City manager, Jeff Meisel. “The last 13 years, this has been here as a gravel lot since the garage was built. We wanted to do something different. We’ve got plenty of parking down here, so why make it just another surface parking lot? We wanted to do something different.”
The city and county have partnered with multiple organizations to secure materials and support, making the project both economically feasible and community-focused. Construction on the Fringe began on July 15 and is anticipated to be completed by the fall.
