Par Makers hosting 60th anniversary annual golf tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Uniting people through golf is common in this community, but decades ago, this was impossible for African Americans.

With courage from charter members of the Par Makers in Bowling Green, 60 years ago, the Par Makers, club was founded to allow African Americans to come together on the golf course to enjoy fellowship and make drastic changes for African Americans and how they were treated.

Dale Spearman, a trainer and golf tournament director tells us how this change affects him.

He says, “To know a little bit of history about it, once upon a time, you know, blacks wouldn’t have been allowed to be on golf courses. So now, to be able to be part of a group that originated during that time and still exists to this day, and being a part of, you know, helping carry on, that makes me feel great. “

You can experience the celebration of the Par Makers 60th anniversary next weekend on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3 , the weekend filled with a dance Saturday night and golfing all weekend.

For presale tickets, you can pick them up at the Shake Rag Barbershop.
