FRANKLIN, Ky. – Federal assistance is now an option for those impacted in Franklin by storms that occurred during Memorial Day weekend.

A Presidential Disaster Declaration for severe storms and straight-line winds that impacted the area between May 21 through May 27 was approved Tuesday, according to a release by Simpson County Emergency Management.

The release says the declaration allows the community to register to receive federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration.

The types of assistance that are approved include Individual Assistance for individuals and households and Public Assistance for emergency work and repair or replacement of weather damaged buildings, emergency officials say.

Within the next days, FEMA will open a mobile disaster recovery center in Simpson County to assist with claims.

The location, dates and hours of this recovery center will be released at a later time.

Residents who had damage to their primary residence during the incident period can register by calling 800-621-3326 or visit disasterassistance.gov.

Additional counties that are approved for the declaration can be found here. For more information, contact emergency management director Robert Palmer at 270-586-1800.
