StepStone hosts sip and talk event to raise awareness about need for foster parents
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-There are thousands of children in our area in need of a stable home, and a local foster care agency is reaching out to the community for help.
Friday morning members of the community were invited to a sip and talk event at the Starbucks on Scottsville Rd. in Bowling Green.
StepStone Family & Youth Services works with foster children and families throughout the South-Central Kentucky region.
On Friday they were getting the word out about the steps required to adopt and/or foster a child.
Those interested were given applications on the spot, and also a free cup of coffee from Starbucks.
A StepStone representative said there’s a dire need for people willing to foster and adopt.
“Currently the statistic says there’s over 8,000 children in care. With all the agencies combined we don’t have enough beds for these children. So, we really need people to open their hearts and homes to these kiddos, because they’re getting placed in residential when they shouldn’t be. They need stability and normalcy in a home,” said Kelsey Davis, foster parent recruiter at StepStone.
On December 2nd StepStone will be holding an open house for those interested in foster care and/or adoption.
