Allen County Schools to introduce updated policies for new school year
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – The Allen County School District is updating their drug testing policy for student athletes before the new school year.
According to the district, each student athlete will be required to undergo drug testing at the beginning of each athletic season of the school year.
They say this policy applies to all sports and aims to promote a healthy, drug-free environment.
Specific testing dates have been established and coaches will be communicating directly with both students and families to provide details about testing dates and information.
“Our athletes serve as role models for our students and people… other students look up to them. Our community holds them up as they come out to support our athletes… and so we want to be sure that we hold a bar that’s high for those students that participate and this is really about ensuring that our students remain healthy,” Allen County superintendent Travis Hamby says.
He also tells us they’ll be conducting random tests once a month for each sport as well.
The school system is also making changes to their athletic behavior policy.
Starting this year, no parent or guardian may make contact with a coach that relates to playing time or management decisions within 24 hours of the incident.
A violation of this 24 hour rule will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and will include a meeting with ACS athletic administration. The meetings could result in suspension from home athletic events.
ACS sports officials say this will allow players to play, coaches to coach and spectators to have fun watching the game.
