Shake Rag Bar & Lounge coming soon to Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s been a dream now coming to fruition after months of planning, the Shake Rag Bar & Lounge.
Chris Page, owner of the Shake Rag Barbershop broke ground recently on a new venue that he hopes will provide the community with somewhere to relax and learn of the history of the Shake Rag District and the contributions of African Americans in the liquor and distilling business.
Page told News 40 that he didn’t know how to get in touch with an architect when he was ready to start building and reached out to Western Kentucky University’s architecture department to find someone to partner with. Page found then student Lydia Cing out of three students in the running to work on the project. This would be Cing’s first solo project right out of college which has been exciting for both her and Page.
Cing spoke to News 40 as well, who said her design is largely inspired by the Shake Rag District after doing extensive research on the area and has planned for it to match the historic feel of the neighborhood. Cing said the bar will feature arches and masonry rather than “dropping a modern building in the middle of nowhere”.
