WASHINGTON, D.C. – A bill to drive the development of nuclear energy sites, led by Congressman Brett Guthrie, is moving forward.

The Nuclear for Brownfields Site Preparation Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden Tuesday morning.

The bipartisan bill aims to enable timely licensing reviews for nuclear reactor facilities at brownfield sites and retired fossil fuel sites and for other purposes.

Guthrie, who is the sponsor of the bill, believes it will improve the efficiency and cost efficiency of existing former coal sites to bring nuclear energy to locations in the United States, according to a post on X.

“It is crucial that both Kentucky and our nation make use of our dedicated energy workers to put us back on the path to energy dominance and lower energy costs. Republicans have made clear that we can put our nation firmly on the path to enhancing our energy future all while lowering energy costs with Kentucky leading the way in this crucial development,” said Congressman Guthrie.

Guthrie represents the Second Congressional District of Kentucky.
