June is recognized as Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

Bowling Green, KY.- June is men’s mental health awareness month and it is important to shed light on the mental health challenges that men face.

The month is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding these issues.
Statistics show that men are less likely to seek help when they are facing mental health issues. Often due to societal expectations and cultural norms.
As a result, professionals say more men complete suicide than women, and oftentimes that is a result of not asking for the help they need.
Licensed professional counseling associate at Life Skills, Kelly Thompson, says, “Once we find out we’re not okay, it’s important to seek help, to ask for help because we don’t have to be not okay. We don’t have to be living with anxiety. We don’t have to be living with depression. We don’t have to be living with post-traumatic stress disorder, but if we don’t ask for help, we’re going to remain living with it.”
If you have concerns for your mental health you should consider therapy and reach out for help. If you need immediate help, you can call or text the 988 suicide and crisis hotline at any time.
